Doordarshan is presently providing free to air DTH service with 59 SDTV channels. The DTH
platform is being expanded by increasing the capacity up to 97 channels. All the channels in MPEG-2
DVB-S will be in free to air mode and all the channels in MPEG-4 DVB-S2 standard will be in free to
view mode for subscribers after one time registration. Conditional Access System (CAS) will initially be
introduced in only two streams of MPEG-4 DVB-S2 to count the total no. of active subscribers.
Doordarshan desire that more than one STB manufactures can sell their STB in Indian market
with Doordarshan approved CAS and Firmware/Middleware so that Doordarshan can count total number
of viewers and control look and feel in all STB marketed in India.
