Only 6 matches. Sports 18 Khel will air all matches. 😜
I don’t think Sports18 Khel will air most of the World Cup matches, if at all. When DD Sports is showing them for DDFD subscribers, why should Sports18 Khel duplicate it? Anyway only Sports18 1 is supposed to show them for pay TV subscribers.

I saw somewhere they are broadcasting in Hindi while Sports 18 1 will air in English. Later than added MTV to Hindi broadcast.

The company’s decision to foray into sports comes from research conducted across its target audience which primarily consists of males in the segment of 15+. The company aims to be the one-stop entertainment destination for its viewers, with sports being next on the agenda.

For sharing an exclusive rights.

Only popular and select content. Can you even give any reason to subscribe to normal Star Sports 1,2,3 channels when some local event or bilateral series is on? Even when there are multiple courts available to stream on Hotstar. On TV they will only show 1 or 2 feed. They are pushing hardcore fans to OTT platforms.

Even if Amazon Prime sells exclusive rights to a private sports broadcaster then in no way does it is likely to include any condition that broadcaster needs to provide free promotion to Amazon Prime for that.

Coming to other point, people opt for Pay TV channels / platforms for a better overall user experience. They can watch popular or less popular events all on Pay Channels and there is no need felt to shift to FTA platforms like DD Free Dish to watch less popular event for free. Basically u get good quality transmission / presentation and there is a price applicable for it, consumer also has a choice to cancel subscription of a channel if they want to do and above all many less popular events r made available by private sports broadcasters on channels which cost lot lesser than others. If u opt for DD Free Dish u would also face disadvantage of not getting access to many sports events so Pay TV subscription is necessary.

About all Wimbledon or Premier League or other such tournament matches not being made available on TV Channels, 1stly it is always not possible to do so bcoz of various reasons be it from broadcaster or source end...also manier times while buying rights of niche sporting properties broadcasters opt for a package which allows limited matches to b shown on TV while all can b aired on their OTT platforms and above all broadcasters adopt a strategy so that it allows them to grow both on Linear (TV) as well as Digital (OTT) front so there is bound to b division of content among these platforms in a way that it gives more option to reach the target audience effectively as well as there is scope to earn max revenue

Let's see. They are advertising both. T10 will end within 2 hours.

I think Sports18 Khel will air those matches which r mandatory to b shared with doordarshan as well as few other key matches which will help attract audience towards it. FIFA World Cup will give a boost to ratings of this new channel and same is very much needed. If viacom18 is able to deliver great success with sports channel on DD Free Dish then Star/Disney and Sony will take similar steps to launch such channels & provide relevant content on it to DD Free Dish viewers. They should have taken this decision long back as there is no fear of losing out Pay TV audience to DD Free Dish bcoz of taking this step, it is all a far fetched and wrong assumption to make or think about, there might b a very minute churn (shift from Pay TV to DD Free Dish) that too temporary and not hurt finances of the broadcasters as they earning so much more from ad revenue on such FTA Sports channels. Such FTA Sports channels should remain to be DD Fee Dish exclusive or if available on Pay TV platforms then b blocked for duration of said event
