Mumbai : While the Hindi general entertainment genre saw a slight dip in viewership in the week ended 14 February, sports and Hindi news genres were big gainers, primarily due to warm-up matches ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup in the Hindi-speaking market (HSM).

The sports genre saw an addition of 107 GVM (gross television viewership in millions) to its previous week’s tally.

Hindi news genre, meanwhile, saw the addition of 44 GVM as per TAM data (sourced from subscribers) for the HSM.

Among the Hindi GECs, Zee TV came back to No. 2 even after losing a meagre 3 GVM. Its flagship show ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ climbed to become the most watched show on the television during the week.

A drop of 20 GVM made Colors slip to No. 3. All of its fiction shows, except ‘Chakrvartin Ashoka Samrat’, witnessed a drop in viewership. ‘Ashoka’ held on to its previous week’s average of 5.4 TVM. Star Plus continued to remain at the top despite a drop of 22 GVM because some of its shows including ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbaitein’, ‘Diya Aur baati Hum’, ‘Nisha Aur Uske Cousins’ and ‘Everest’ witnessed a drop in average viewership. At No. 4, Life OK was the biggest gainer (20 GVM) due to a spurt in the viewership of ‘Savdhaan India’ and ‘Comedy Classes’. SAB saw a marginal drop while Sony Entertainment Television (SET) gained 18 GVM due to the telecast of ‘Filmfare Awards’ on Sunday, 8 February.

The four-hour event delivered 5.7 TVM and contributed 47.9 GVM to the channel’s kitty. In another highlight, newbie Epic raced ahead of Sahara One. Top fiction Genre leader Star Plus had five shows in the top 10, followed by three from Zee TV and one each from Colors and SAB.
