Star India has bolstered its cricket line-up with
the acquisition of Asia Cup global media rights for eight
years from 2016 to 2023.

The events included under this agreement are Asia Cup,
Women’s Asia Cup, Emerging Asia Cup and U19 Asia
Cup.

The decision to award the rights to Star was taken at the
Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) meeting held in Singapore.
ACC President Sidath Weetimuny said, “The value offered
by Star India is significantly higher than any of ACC’s
previous commercial contracts and it will provide much
needed funds for the development of the game in Asia.

The ACC had on 2 November published an ITT for certain
media rights relating to the Asia Cup tournaments
scheduled to be held from 2016 to 2023. The media
rights package included television, audio, internet and
mobile rights for all territories globally.

Star’s cricket rights include International Cricket Council,
Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia and
England Cricket Board.

Star Sports Bags Asia Cup Broadcasting Rights until 2024 – Bangladesh Hosts Asia Cup

Another biggest cricket tournament is on its way followed by VB Series 2016 and ahead of ICC World Cup T20. It’s Asia Cup 2016 and the happiest thing about the tournament is that; in Asia Cup history first time ever the tournament will happen in T20 format features five Asian teams.

Asia Cup has been started playing since 1984 features only Asian cricket teams and probably held after 2 years once in 50 overs format. Four test playing nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will participate every year straight without qualify basis. ICC alongside with Asian cricket council decided to add an associate team as UAE, Hong Kong, Oman and Afghanistan will be played to qualify as a fifth team from February 19 to 22 February 2016.

This is the third consecutive time (2012 and 2014) and over all fifth (1988, 2000, 2012, 2014 and now 2016) Bangladesh will host the Asia Cup starts from February 24 2016 to March 6 2016. The Asia Cup from 2016 held in rotational basis in terms of formats as 2018 Asia cup will be held in ODI format while 2020 will be in T20I format and again 2022 will be in ODI format.

So far since 1986 there are 12 Asia Cup tournaments held in ODI format as India and Sri Lanka won 5 each tournaments while Pakistan Won the trophy in 2 tournaments.

Sri Lanka Won the 2014 Asia Cup by 5 Wickets against Pakistan.
The previous Asia Cup 2014 tournament was won Sri Lanka by 5 wickets against Pakistan as the fixtures for the Asia Cup 2016 yet to be officially announced.

Excitement around Asian cricket fans looking forward to see their favorite Asian cricket teams to participate in the Asia Cup 2016 T20I format especially Star Sports India will telecast the matches.

I was hoping Sony to take up the rights to increase its presence in Cricket besides IPL.
