Star India reports Rs 1,216 crore loss in FY19

star india loss only down to higher expenditure . its not like sony or zee or any other big network dont want ipl or bcci tv rights. u can see diffrence between star india and zee that there is gap of 4407 cr . star india know this is sustainable business . they can monetize . earn little profit when 5 years of ipl cycle period come to end. next ipl tv rights might be sold for less than Rs 16,347.5 crore .

Star one and life ok was popular but not successful on the ratings chart. Both channels had good rantings in their initial days. In fact, after initial success life ok literally became Saavdhan ok(repeating saavdhan India all day). The same goes for youth shows and sitcoms from star one. They were popular amongst youth and mature audiences but could not compete with saas-bahu sagas. And rebrand on life ok to star Bharat was for rural audiences due to BARC ratings.


Same thing as Star one. Only Viacom cares to keep MTV running for youths. But this youth genre is a niche one. Considering that putting so much cost in content creation doesn't make much sense to a business model. Better to create digital-only shows for youth.
Niche channels bring huge subscription money which GEC will never do.
 
Star should think whether they really require 70+ channels in India.
More better if they think about 15+ sports channels.

True. Star will kill the channels which they lost interest or doesn't give mass ratings. Even MTV is very popular and leading in Youth genre, but trp is very less compared to other genre. If Star was in the place Viacom, MTV get shutdown like channel V.

Just tell me one niche channel doing well in India.
They're priced way below than mainstream channels still not able to get the same ratings as they used to get before TRAI regime. The best example is the English entertainment and Movies Genre.

My point is our mass audience is not ready yet for mature content and the audience which is ready for such content has mobile phones with them along with good internet. They just don't rely on TV to watch such content. This is the vital reason those niche content and channels don't do well on tv but in digital platforms, this content getting good viewership.

HD only channels are doing good. If you pander everything to your flagship channels. You are killing the niche audience.
