MUMBAI: As per media reports, former Marico CMO Anuradha Aggarwal will be joining Star India to head the English and kids channels for the broadcaster. It is going to be her first stint in the broadcast industry.

Aggarwal, who had left Marico in October last year, comes with almost two decades of experience in marketing in the FMCG category. She has earlier worked with brands like Mondelez and Vodafone India. She had started her career with HUL and had spent initial 12 years of her professional life in the company. She was the category marketing manager for hair care when she had resigned from there.

What would consumer goods executive know about entertainment business?
If we check the job history of heads of leading medias ,many of them came from non broadcasting sector. Star India country head Sanjay Gupta was earlier worked in Airtel and Hindustan Uniliver.

No wonder their ratings are great. Other than sports. What do they even have? They have limited latest movies. GEC's content is so poor. No other country would syndicate most shows. Even sports business will bring them loss in long run.

Not only Star others too had same type of leadership.

Nothing wrong in this, he will have dedicated team working under his leadership to take care of different departments. His job will be to see after smooth functioning for putting together good products. Being from FMCG is infact an advantage and media companies prefer people from this background, those having experience in it have much better understanding of consumer choice/behaviour and even know how to attractively package/market stuff . Above all he can also help channels get brands on board by positioning to them content matching the core premise or value / present benefit of reaching target audience in a better manner
