In order to attain digitisation in tamilnadu, TACTV floats global tender to procure 80 lakhs set top boxes.
It includes SD, HD, Triple play boxes & FTTH boxes.

fantastic  news.
Seems Arasu  really took this opportunity to make digilization in TN.
First it has to concentrate Chennai and make digitization first . Then it can ask TRAI more time, to fulfill digitization in other districts.
VK and SCV will do some tricks to overtake Arasu and distribute STBs.

HD :sp awesome hoping it will soon implemented then I will say good bye to SD

Its not 80 lac, but 70 lac. 60 lac SD & 10 lac HD STB.

They currently seem to have around 71 lac subscribers and Chennai has around 40 lac cable connections, if they want to include Chennai then they have to procure 1.1-1.2 crore STB. But with the current plan to procure 70 lac STB, then they seem to have completely ignored Chennai and focusing primarily on their current subscribers.

Hope Arasu clarifies about its plans for Chennai so Chennai people can wait for Arasu STB or purchase an STB from their LCO subscribing to what ever MSO their LCOs are currently linked to.

will lco move to arasu or they will stick with same lco.tat will be a question.tn govt can announce any news about joining in arasu cable will get some benefit,so that other mso also do the same and its main lco needs to decide it.

But I feel future of TACTV is still uncertain because of unusual political situation..
Infact they have already made similar attempt few years back but it was dropped later.
Central govt gives them a deadline of 3 months to attain digitisation.
We can't make a sigh of relief until something happens real..  :-/

but within 3 months they couldnot get 80 lakhs setup boxes...even manufacturing company need time for better standard setup boxes.if TACTV replace setup boxes for free if any damages or not working means no pblm then for customers.if not we should feel the burden.

LCO might think that they get paid on time by a private MSO and will get service if cable cut during weekend, proper STB quality and service.

If Arasu can promise all the above and underground cable connection for main line from MSO to LCO then LCO will be more interested. :)

Yes, but last time they did not have DAS license but this time they have it so they have to be aggressive first else LCO's will never connect to them. Mostly LCO's will try to sell STB by force before Arasu procures STB.

A: Arasu has to first announce in news about its planned service for Chennai and, :k

1: Warn LCO not to force and sell STB to people.
2: Inform public that they will start supply free STB within 1 or 2 month.

B: After this, :clap

1: LCO's will stop selling STB from other MSO.
2: Also public would refuse to buy STB from LCO.
3: LCO might be forced to join Arasu.

C: To stop people from moving to DTH and to bring DTH subscribers back to local cable, :sp

1: Arasu has to give world class STB and,
2: Quality service with quick STB replacement.
3: Underground cable from MSO to LCO so no frequent disconnection.
4: Immediate re-connection of cable especially if its cut during weekend.
5: Best customer care and support on par with DTH.

All the above are interconnected and depends on the other, if one fails then Chennai subscribers will move to DTH and wont return in future.

Point C seems to be the main reason for Chennai LCO's refusing to join Arasu. If Arasu guarantees the best to LCO's then they will move to Arasu without fear.
Point A & B are for public to force LCO to join Arasu. :)
