Tata Sky launches school education through DTH

Classroom for its current 17 million subscribers across India. The service will provide audio-visual learning to children of class 5 to class 8 with the NCERT syllabus."We are launching this service in Maths and Science subjects. The service will be available free-of-cost till June 20 to all Tata Sky subscribers. Later it will be available at Rs 99 per month in two languages English and Hindi," informed Malay Dixit, chief communications officer, Tata Sky.The content is developed by Tata ClassEdge, which aimsto cover 10 million students annually by 2025. "The content is used by 1300 schools across India. Currently, in the overall publications industry, we see about 35 per cent digitization. But in educational publications, the quantum of digitization is merely 3 per cent. There is a huge requirement of providing educational content through digital sources," said Rajesh Khandagale, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata ClassEdge.Tata Sky looks to generate new business from hinterland with the new offering. "We will be in a betterposition to acquire customers. We are strong in hinterland and we expect to grow in those geographies now," said Dixit after the launch of the service here.
