The Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has adjourned the direct-to-home (DTH) customer premises equipment (CPE) case to 8 July.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has filed its reply. Videocon d2h has filed its rejoinder while the DTH Association is expected to file its rejoinder in three weeks.

In the earlier hearing, the tribunal had directed TRAI to file a short reply to the issue of interim relief prayed for on behalf of the appellants by 18 May, and a rejoinder, if any, by 22 May.

The DTH Association, Videocon d2h, and Sun Direct had appealed against TRAI’s tariff order for CPE that capped the installation and activation charges for DTH customer CPE at Rs 450.

The authority had also asked DTH operators to mandatorily offer an outright purchase scheme called ‘Standard Scheme’ for all types of CPE on standalone basis.

They are also required to provide free maintenance and repairs of CPE for three years after installation/activation.

The DTH operators contend that the regulator has failed to address relevant issues raised by them while framing the tariff order. They want the tariff order to be set aside.

The tribunal had earlier set aside TRAI’s 27 May 2013 tariff order and asked it to conduct a fresh exercise taking the inputs provided by the DTH operators and addressing the issues raised by them
