MUMBAI: The Delhi High Court, while hearing the mandatory injunction petition filed by Taj Television (and affiliate companies), has passed a John Doe Order in favour of the broadcaster. With this development, the cable operators are restrained from receiving and transmitting signals of the Ten Cricket channel without permission. Taj Television said, “By virtue of this order MSOs/ LCOs/ cable operators/ headends and all their representatives, franchises etc are restrained from illegally receiving the signals of Ten Cricket Channel and transmitting / telecasting / communicating the same to their customer / subscriber / end users without the permission, license or consent of Taj TV and further from in any manner infringe upon Taj TV’s rights in Ten Cricket channel in any manner whatsoever. Cease and desist notices have been sent to such web sites and site hosts, and a successful raid was conducted a few days back with two persons being arrested for indulging in piracy. A series of raids are being lined up in the coming days to curb the menace of piracy. Ten Cricket, which holds the broadcasting rights for the event in the Caribbean, will screen the West Indies series which includes a T20, five ODIs and three Test matches. This is the first tour for World Champions India after their successful Cricket World
Cup campaign. Ten Sports CEO Atul Pande said, “Protection of intellectual property is at the core of the television business and is key for the growth of both broadcasters and distribution platforms. On that issue we will not negotiate or compromise.” Taj Television India will take strict action against all those involved in channel piracy and ensure that all its channels - Ten Sports, Ten Action + and Ten Cricket - reach into viewers livings rooms through legitimate means.
