Airtel’s DVR shows us where the Direct-to-Home space is headed

Having climbed Mt HD, the television industry has set its sights on conquering 3D technology. However, in India, a major obstacle in this uphill climb is the lack of 3D content. While you are able to buy a handful of 3D movies on DVD and Blu-ray, you can’t obviously keep watching the same movies, especially when you have bought a Rs 1lakh plus TV especially for the third dimension.

If things go as planned, we could see 3D content being beamed into Indian homes with DTH in the near future. And DTH companies are already prepared with the required hardware. For instance, Airtel’s recently launched DVR is 3D-ready and can record and reproduce three-dimensional content, provided you have a television that is up to the task.

And that is just one more feature for the new top-of-the-game HD Recorder, which lets customers view HD and Standard Definition (SD) channels with pause and rewind options.
