BoxTV.com follows a 'freemium model', which means that a part of the content will be available on an ad-supported free-to-user basis, and the rest can be accessed on a monthly subscription.

Times Internet, the digital business arm of BCCL (Bennett, Coleman and Co Ltd), has made its video streaming service, BoxTV, available for public access. The website was launched in September, 2012. However, access to the site so far was possible only on invitation.

BoxTV.com follows a 'freemium model', which means that a part of the content will be available on an ad-supported free-to-user basis, and the rest can be accessed on a monthly subscription. The Indian subscription price starts at Rs 199 per month.

In beta phase, the platform had claimedly garnered around 100,000 access requests and to support the launch, the company has inked content agreements with Sony Pictures Television and Disney UTV to offer their premium titles on BoxTV. Besides, BoxTV has also announced partnerships with UTV Motion Pictures, Shemaroo Entertainment, Rajshri Entertainment and Everymedia Technologies for Bollywood and regional content.


BoxTV now offers more than 17,000 hours of content including films, TV shows and also houses a large selection of regional content in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bhojpuri and Bengali.

Speaking about the launch, Satyan Gajwani, CEO of Times Internet, says, "BoxTV is a one-stop source for all video entertainment and we strive to consistently deliver greater value to our customers by bringing the best anytime, anywhere entertainment on multiple platforms."

Users will be able to access BoxTV via iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Kindle Fire, EvoTV, Woxi Pod and Roku. Moreover, apps for Windows 8, J2ME and BlackBerry platforms are currently in the pipeline.
