Times Network is planning to launch a high-definition (HD) version of its popular English news channel Times Now.

Times Now HD is likely to launch in August, a source in the company said on condition of anonymity.

Before Times Now HD, the network will launch the HD version of its youth- focused English movie channel Movies Now 2 by the end of July.

The standard-definition (SD) version of Movies Now 2 had launched on 23 June.

Currently, Times Network has three HD channels, namely Movies Now HD, MN+ and Romedy Now HD.

The English entertainment space has many HD channels.

However, the English TV news genre did not have a single HD channel until recently when Kartikeya Sharma-promoted iTV Network launched NewsX HD in May.

NewsX HD is already available on direct-to-home (DTH) platform Tata Sky. In English business news, TV18 has CNBC TV18 Prime HD.

The English entertainment space has nine HD channels—Star Movies HD, Star Movies Select HD, Star World HD, Star World Premiere HD, Zee Café HD, Zee Studio HD, Comedy Central HD, FX HD and PIX HD.

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) is planning to launch a premium English movie channel called Sony Le PLEX HD.

In recent times, there has been a trend towards launching regional HD channels, with Star India and Viacom18 leading the pack. ZEEL is also planning to launch HD versions of its regional channels.
