In rural India people getting more than 350 channels fron cable service for Rs 150. With the new rules coming from 29th Dec a rural agricultural family has to spend nearly Rs 300 for getting few channels. Is this rule anticipated? TRAI is not doing justice to the people. It is encouraging caputalists like DTH operators.

Please check the new tariff:
Basic price Rs 130 plus GST at 18%
charges for few kannada channels are:
Star Suvarna Rs 19
Colors Kannada rs. 19
Udaya Tv rs 17
Zee kannada rs 19
Udaya movies Rs 7
like this. This reaches to Rs 250 - 300
Is this justification TRAI doing?

I think cable operators are pirating signal or not paying taxes. Which mso provide 350 chs for Rs 150 ? plz give link
In my area LCO provides all SD channels of DEN at just ₹175/month & adds all new channels on the launch day.
For HD, just pay 120 more & get all HD channels.

Absolutely right Sarkar bro, LCO's are major culprits in current process. They under report subscribers to MSO which they did earlier directly to broadcasters during analogue era. So even if they are taking small monthly amount for all channels from subscribers, majority of it is going into their pocket. Thru this new TRAI Order, it will become completely transparent as to how much revenue is generated from each household and proper % of it will be shared between stakeholders or given to government as taxes.

All people will be benefitted , we will get all our favourite channels at low cost unlike present package where unwanted channels are inserted to inflate count. Also new channels will be added fast on private operators as there is no need to sign fixed deal , pay money for multi year agreement to broadcasters and take tension to recover + earn profit.

All these years, cable tv sector has been contributing less towards taxes or revenue as compared to DTH despite the former having larger share. It's high time that

Not all cable subscriber get cheap rates.I am Hathaway Kolkata user and LCO takes the same price as in Hathway site including gst.If he comes late to collect the money, the channels gets scrambled for which we call him to activate

Trai is doing right action only. It creates transparent of actual price and also, it creates competition among DTH and cable operators. It benefits customers like telephone sectors. All services should be under regulator. So that it becomes formal sector then we can easily calculate taxes for their services so that government get taxes more. Now only few companies and salaried individual s only paying taxes because they are into formal sector.
