TV5MONDE has announced its DTH foray in India with the launch of the channel on Airtel Digital TV—the DTH arm of telecom company Bharti Airtel. With this, TV5MONDE will now be available to over 9.5 million customers of Airtel Digital TV, making India the largest market in the world for TV5MONDE.
According to the Indian research institute TAM, TV5MONDE Asie has a very strong reputation and audience in India with an average weekly cumulative audience of over 680,000 viewers.
The partnership deal was completed by TV5MONDE’s India Broadcast Licensee’s and Agent, CATVISION Ltd, who has been representing the French-speaking channel since 1998.
Available on channel No. 157 on Airtel Digital TV absolutely free-of-charge on its “Ultra” and “South Ultra” recharge packs and at an a la carte rate of Rs.50 on all other packs, TV5MONDE will offer a wide variety of exclusive English subtitled primetime films, world-class sports events, high-quality documentaries, kids’ programs, cooking and design lessons, as well as exciting game shows and in-depth coverage of international news to Airtel customers, especially the French entertainment content lovers and French speakers in the country. While the channel will be automatically added for the “Ultra” & “South Ultra” customers, all other Airtel Digital TV customers can send a message <ADD 157> to 54325 from their registered mobile number to subscribe to the channel.
Commenting on the launch, Alexandre Muller, MD (Asia-Pacific) at TV5MONDE, said, “We are very happy to go live on Airtel Digital TV. It will allow us to serve our subscribers throughout India with one of the best DTH service available in the country”

Spreading the French language is a priority for us and I believe that this partnership with Airtel Digital TV is definitely going to give more exposure to TV5 Monde which would be especially beneficial to many French speaking Indian nationals as well as other francophone nationals,” said François Vandeville, Director of Institut Français en Inde.
TV5MONDE Asie was until now only available on cable TV and DD Bharti in India. With this launch, the channel will now reach over 55 million subscribers in Asia-Pacific, with a subscriber base of 38 million in India alone.
