Switzerland's largest cable operator UPC Cablecom wants to offer its customers mobile services in future.
The subsidiary of US media company Liberty Global will use Orange's mobile network as a mobile virtual network operator for this purpose, writes Swiss newspaper "Neue Zürcher Zeitung".
The contract has now been signed with the mobile network operator part of the France Télécom group, according to the report. UPC Cablecom has also submitted an application at telecommunications regular Bundesamt für Kommunikation to be allocated a mobile service ID.
A project team set up by UPC Cablecom and Orange will now work out the plans for the further proceedings. A quick market introduction is, however, not envisaged, says the cable operator.
