atleast read the post completly before commenting in above comments it is given that d2h uses 54mhz tp which have 50%more space . and if you have studied math then you can calculate.
for example:-

d2h and airtel -
both uses mpeg4 and dvbs-2
airtel has 12 36mhz tp but only 11 is activated.
d2h has 8 54mhz tp equivalent to (8+8/2)= 12 36mhz tp .
result - d2h wins over airtel by 1 tp (if airtel activets its one tp then there would be tie)

d2h and rdtv -
both uses mpeg4 but d2h uses dvbs-2 and rdtv uses dvbs .
rdtv has 9 36mhz tp .
d2h has 8 54mhz tp equivalent to (8+8/2)= 12 36mhz tp
result - here also d2h wins by 3 tps .

d2h and tata sky -
d2h uses mpeg 4 dvbs2 and ts uses mpeg 2 dvbs (mpeg 4 for HD chs only) . in mpeg4 system more channel can be transmitted than mpeg2
tata sky has 12 36mhz tp . and they uses mpeg 2 so less channels
d2h has 8 54mhz tp equivalent to (8+8/2)= 12 36mhz tp . they uses mpeg-4 so more channels than mpeg 2
result here also d2h wins due to mpeg 4 technology (but if ts shifts to mpeg 4 then there would be tie).

Because Tata Sky was using MPEG2 technology
It is now converting to MPEG4
After Full conversion Tata sky will be no space issue and will be No 1

Tatasky used the MPEG-2 DVB-S compression which uses about double the space as MPEG-4 DVBS2 compression used by both airtel and d2h.

As per the updated information, d2h already activated a 9th TP and some news that 10th TP is also being activated or already activated but no signal.

10 54MHz d2h TP = 15 36MHz others TPs

D2H can broadcast 48 SD channels or 12-13 HD channels per TP with perfect quality. With this they can easily offer 500+ channels and services giving tough competition to dishtv and other providers.

ISRO approved tps for other dths but not for tata sky? Have 900 crore money for mpeg4 migration but not able get tps?
