I used to have an Airtel DTH, but then I upgraded to Airtel Xstream (big blunder) because I wanted Airtel wifi (which was good, and they offered it as a black service). It does NOT HAVE FAVOURITES (like, why?), and the quality is similar to previous ones. I called customer care to downgrade my DTH box, but they refused and asked me to buy the HD Box. Now, I am unable to buy the HD box because the website is showing order not applicable or some error.

So, when an Airtel person came due to another wifi issue, I asked him how to buy an HD box. He said that currently, you can't even buy airtel stream box and only the new iptv is available.

So, now, I am asking here, which DTH should I buy? I have a good Android 4K TV, so I don't need an Android set-top box.
We use the TV to watch cricket matches, news and Sansad, mostly (but sometimes movies). IP TV does not provide the clarity for watching cricket which is why we prefer the DTH.
We want to have the proper Favourite's feature (the one where you choose your favourite channels and not leave it to some id*otic smart AI. the one where you can scroll through your favourite channels only when you press up and down channels button), and Record function (USB preferable), and hopefully we can choose the Ala Carte Channels.

3. after entering mobile number and otp , add new dth (hd box) with exsiting fiber
4. enter address and other details
5. pay 2500/- you will get HD box

Your Android TV will go slow over time. That box will be than useful. It's already useful as it can offer you both satellite channels and streaming channels. If you can't live without favorites than I suggest you get the Tata Play HD box. Although you can't custom group your favorites here. Here you get a dedicated LCN for your favorites where you can select upto 50 favourites from LCN 900 to 949.

Sun HD has a big favorite feature.
You can create either
1 fav group with all your channels
Or
Create multiple fav groups where you can assort your favs based on your liking.
You can access fav channels using 1 click of fav button.
Also, sun DTH categories all channels based on genre in the channel UI. So you might not even need favourite option in its STB.
In my opinion its the most elder friendly UI with all navigation done using the arrow and select buttons. No need to press the color buttons for simple tasks like changing genre.
Oh All the DTH I've used, SUN has the best channel browsing UI which is also fast.
In second place is DishTv/D2h
Third is Tataplay
Fourth is Airtel

Not sure about sundirect, but fav feature of tataplay is better than dishtv and airtel..you get dedicated lcn for fav channels and one can easily organise channels in fav lcns as per their convenience which you can never do in airtel or dishtv ..I guess sundirect also...
I had used d2h back in 2014 ...it had fav from lcn 1 just like good old analog tv days...not sure about current situation...also not to forget many hindi channels are missing in both d2h and sundirect.so it might not be good for north indian customers..
