Im wondering why indian movies hd channels dont run in full screen like english hd movie channels. They always have black bars on top and bottom which ruins the hd experience.

As of my knowledge, Movies are captured with ratio 2:35:1. Same format is telecasted in channels. Howeveer, tv has aspect ratio of 16:9, so you are getting black bars. In English movie channels, they are zooming in, you will not see entire details.
However, tv serials are captured in 16:9 format, so you will see full screen in tv

your right bro...

English channels don't stretch or zoom in. The aspect ratio differs from movie to movie / production house to production house. If an English movie is made to be shown on IMAX, the aspect would be 1.43:1. Most Hollywood movies are shot at 1.85:1 aspect ratio while European movies are shot at 1.66:1 aspect ratio. most of these movie makers release the movies in separate format for home-video in 16:9 aspect ratio. These are legally acquired by English movie channels and are aired on TV. You will feel the quality of these movies to every inch viewing these on your HD TV.

But in India, most movies are shot in 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 aspect ratio to be made suitable for widescreen movie projections. They do not process it separately for home releases and the same ratio is compressed with two black bars, making the ratio 16:9. This is the reason why the Indian HD movies broadcast by Indian HD channels hinder the true HD experience.
