Celebrating noteworthy work from the golden era of Indian cinema, Zee Classic will now celebrate the life and work of the actress Shabana Azmi in a film festival. Calling her the monarch of new wave cinema, the channel has designed a film festival that will showcase films that transcend the borders of realism. It will start from 9 May at 8 am.
On four consecutive Saturdays, Zee Classic will bring to viewers the best of the cinematic prowess of Azmi with films like Ankur, Nishant, Mandi and Saaz.
From playing a docile and helpless farmer’s wife in Ankur to being part of modern day Ramayana in Nishant, Azmi owned each character that she impersonated on-screen. Mandi saw Azmi in a character like never before.
The crude, selfish yet likable ‘Bai’ is till date one of her best roles and Saaz showcased Shabana as a crusader for all those women who need to break the barrier and come on their own.
