The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has cancelled 3 satellite TV licenses belonging to AETN18 Media Private Limited with History TV18 Tamil, FYI TV18, and FYI TV18 HD dropped from the permitted private satellite TV channels.

As of 31st July 2020, according to the I&B Ministry the number of permitted private satellite TV channels stands at 916. The cancellation of History TV18 Tamil, FYI TV18, and FYI TV18 licenses will increase the number of cancelled TV channels from 305 to 308 as of 31st July 2020 which is yet to reflect in the database.

AETN18 Media Private Limited had pulled the plug on FYI TV18 and FYI TV18 HD citing that the dominant leadership position was not translating into adequate monetisation due to genre-pressures leading to the shutdown. The satellite uplink signal of History TV18 Tamil, FYI TV18, and FYI TV18 HD had recently left from Intelsat 20.

The Ministry recently gave nod to Jothi TV and Janta TV Uttar Pradesh Uttrakhand by allowing the renaming of their existing licenses. Separately the TV licenses of News18 J&K, News18 Goa, Isaaq, Play My Movie and Play My Song have been cancelled by the MIB.
