The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) today advised private satellite TV channels to carry sign language interpretation of the commentary of Republic Day Parade on their channel tomorrow.

The Ministry in its advisory stated that it had received requests from members of the civil society to facilitate access to the people with hearing impairment to the Speech of the Hon’ble President of India on the eve of Republic Day on 25th January 2022 and to the commentary of the Republic Day Parade on 26th January 2022.

The civil society members had requested the Ministry that the telecast of the above is accompanied by English/Hindi closed captions and sign language interpretation to help those having hearing impairment connect meaningfully with the important National Day.

State broadcaster’s Doordarshan’s DD Bharati and DD News channel will be carrying sign language interpretation of the commentary on their channel on 26th January 2022 from 9:00 hours to 12:!5 hours or till the end of the Republic Day Parade. Doordarshan also carried sign language interpretation of the President’s message to the nation on DD Bharati and DD News earlier today from 07:30 PM to 08:00 PM.

The feed of DD News and DD Bharati has been made available free of cost so that all TV channels interested in carrying the live telecast of the Speech of Hon’ble President of India on 25th January 2022 and Republic Day Parade on 26th January 2022, can carry the signals of DD Bharati and DD News with commentary and English/Hindi closed captions. The same has been done in the larger interest of differently-abled people and to make the event accessible to them.
