MIB approves renamed TV license for India News Punjab/Himachal/Jammu Kashmir

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) today updated its permitted satellite TV channels repository with the renaming of Information TV Private Limited’s existing satellite TV channel license ‘India News Punjab’.

The Ministry recently renamed ITV Network’s ‘India News Punjab’ TV license as ‘India News Punjab/Himachal/Jammu Kashmir’. The ‘News and Current Affairs’ TV license was initially granted to ITV Network on 23rd December 2010 named ‘India News Punjab’.

The license has authorization to broadcast in English, Hindi, and all Indian scheduled languages. The license has permission for uplinking and downlinking and operates from GSAT-17, an Indian satellite.

The Ministry recently also renamed ITV Network’s satellite TV license ‘NE News’ to pave the way for ‘India News Business’. The Ministry last month accepted the surrender request of 5 TV channels during May 2022. As per the ministry, the total number of private satellite TV channels for up-linking and downlinking in India as of 31st May 2022 is 897.
