MIB grants 2 new TV channel licenses & cancels 6 TV channel licenses in June 2022

Number of private satellite TV channels dropped to 893 at the end of June 2022, from 897 at the end of May 2022.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) issued 2 new TV channel licenses and accepted the surrender request/cancelled 6 TV channel licenses during June 2022, according to its monthly summary for the cabinet.

As per the Ministry, the total number of private satellite TV channels for uplinking and downlinking in India as of 30th June 2022 stood at 893. The total number of private satellite TV channels stood at 897 in the preceding month.

The Ministry, in May 2022, had accepted the surrender request of 5 TV channel licenses, whereas, in April 2022, it cancelled/surrendered 1 TV channel license. In March 2022, the Ministry granted permission to 1 News TV channel and cancelled 1 TV channel.

In June 2022, the Ministry also signed thirteen (13) new grant of permission agreements (GOPAs) and renewed three (03) GOPAs. It also released grant-in-aid to two community radio stations during the month.
