MIB grants 3 new TV channel licenses and cancels 1 TV channel licenses during August 2022

Number of private satellite TV channels increased to 897 at the end of August 2022, up from 895 at the end of July 2022.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) issued 3 new TV channel licenses and accepted the surrender request/cancelled 1 TV channel license during August 2022, according to the monthly summary for the cabinet.

As per the Ministry, the total number of private satellite TV channels for up-linking and downlinking in India as of 31st August 2022 stood at 897. The total number of private satellite TV channels for up-plinking and downlinking stood at 895 in the preceding month.

In July 2022, the Ministry issued 5 new permissions and, accepted the surrender request/cancelled 3 TV channels during the month. In June 2022, the Ministry granted 2 new permissions and, accepted the surrender request/cancelled 6 TV channels.

In August 2022, the Ministry signed seventeen (17) new grant of permission agreements (GOPAs) and renewed nine (09) GOPAs during the month.
