MNP facility to be unavailable from 10th December to 15th December: TRAI
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today said that the cut over to the new MNP regulations would be effective from 00:00:00 hours of 16th December 2019. Customers can generate the UPC in the current MNP process and submit their port request until 17:59:59 hours of 9th December 2019.
The porting requests submitted by subscribers then shall be completed within the stipulated time. However due to migration of existing process into new MNP process by telecom providers, the MNP facility will not be available for the mobile subscribers during 10th December to 15th December 2019.
Subscribers can attempt UPC generation afresh after migration to the new MNP process. The cut-over to the new MNP process will be from 00:00 hours of 16th December, 2019. The regulator has told telecom service providers to take necessary steps in creating awareness and sensitising the subscribers through social media, call centres, point of sales etc.
The new regulations have a major shift in the mechanism for generating Unique Porting Code (UPC). Pre-validation of eligibility conditions for porting will determine generation of UPC by the Mobile Number Portability Service Provider (MNPSP).
It will ensure smooth porting in new framework, thus making the porting process faster and convenient to the mobile subscribers. Validity of UPC as per new process will be 4 days for all Licensed Service Areas (LSAs) barring the LSAs of Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East, where validity of UPC will still be 30 days.
