Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on 12th May 2020 on the economic package is said to have garnered 4.3 billion viewing minutes, according to BARC Nielsen. The data was shared in Edition 8 of COVID-19 TV+Smartphone Consumption during the crisis.

According to BARC Nielsen, the address on economic package garnered the highest viewing minutes of the 5 addresses by the Prime Minister on COVID-19.

The 5th COVID-19 address on 12th May on economic package was beamed across 197 channels with a duration of approx 33 mins. In those 33 mins, 193 million viewed the telecast with viewing minutes at 4,268 million minutes.

PM’s 4th COVID-19 address on Lockdown 2.0 has the second-highest viewing minutes at 3922.4 million minutes with 203 million people tuning into the telecast which was beamed across 199 channels for an approximate time of 25 minutes.

BARC Nielsen however as a disclaimer noted that the viewership figures were not final and were based on the data collected. This is because the address took two days before the report was released and the data pertaining to the week wherein the economic package was announced will be available come Thursday.
