More rating meters are installed in states such as Maharashtra, while Kashmir and the Northeast have very few. So news channels show much more coverage of Maharashtra than the Northeast. Consequently, Maharashtra’s viewers figure prominently on the ratings meters, while Kashmir or the Northeast are simply not there.
