Republic Bangla said to be just weeks away
As of 31st January 2021, the Ministry has permitted 909 channels. There are 388 News and Current Affairs TV channels out of which 51 channels were granted permission post 1st January 2016.

ARG Outlier Media’s upcoming Bengali news channel Republic Bangla is said to be mere weeks away with Republic TV sharing pictures from its upcoming newsroom in Kolkata, West Bengal wherein work is in full steam to get the Republic Bangla news room up and running.
The launch of Republic Bangla will increase ARG Outlier Media’s news portfolio to 3 TV news channels consisting of Republic TV, Republic Bharat, and Republic Bangla.
Whether ARG Outlier Media has got the nod from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) as of today to operate Republic Bangla remains unclear. As of 31st January 2021, the Ministry has permitted 909 channels. There are 388 News and Current Affairs TV channels out of which 51 channels were granted permission post 1st January 2016.
As per the database in the public domain, Republic Bangla hasn’t got MIB nod to yet operate as a satellite channel. Notably, the trademark for Republic Bangla was registered in December 2020 post which ARG Outlier Media probably applied for a license given registration of a trademark is a pre-requisite for companies applying to the I&B Ministry for a satellite TV channel license.
