The Telecom Disputes and Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has directed Hathway Digital Private Limited to reconnect the signals of Shreya Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd.

Shreya Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd. had moved TDSAT against Hathway Digital Private for disconnection of its signals. On hearing both parties, Hathway claimed a huge amount of arrears for which it had issued a notice dated 12.7.2019. According to the broadcaster, the same was received only through an e-mail of 16.7.2019.

The tribunal noted ” Without going into the merits of rival claims, at this stage, it is clear that disconnection has been affected by the respondent without waiting for the expiry of the minimum 21 days of the notice period.

Hence, we direct the respondent to reconnect the signals of the petitioner on its appropriate genre forthwith and, in any case, by tomorrow.

On consideration of the merits of the respondent’s case, we may vary or modify this interim order after the expiry of the notice period. It may be open for the respondent to file a reply within a week. Rejoinder, if required may be filed within one week thereafter.”

Shreya Broadcasting owns and runs three channels namely TV5, TV5 Kannada, and Hindu Dharmam. A day after the hearing it moved a news miscellaneous application that was not heard in detail and put together to be heard on 13 August with the main case.
