Airtel HD DVR for 4999? Why sudden price drop?

one more q bro. y u r going for adtv. its too costly bro. n hd channels r also very less.
instead of this, go 4 d2h dvr as it is cheap also n packages r very good.

Till last year Videocon was the cheapest with maximum HD channels. But somewhere in 2014 Airtel became cheaper and got almost all the HD channels which d2h has (I am not considering some HD channels like Sun HD as I do not need them). And everyone says Airtel gives better HD quality compared to d2h.

On price front again somewhere in 2014, Airtel became cheaper than d2h. Here is the comparison:

Videocon d2h:
HD DVR + 12 month HD pack (south platinum HD) costs 12690 Rs.
HD DVR + 1 month HD pack (new south platinum HD) costs 7460 Rs.

Airtel:
HD DVR + 12 month HD pack (south magnum 22 HD) costs 9490 Rs.
HD DVR + 2 month HD pack (south mega 22 HD) costs 4990 Rs.

Of course, Airtel comes with 500GB HDD when compared to 1TB of d2h. But still it is cheaper. Also, Airtel comes with universal remote which is very useful to lessen the remote clutter on my coffee table.

Today I got the Airtel HD-DVR installed. Bought it from the local retailer who gave the same price as Komparify. Installation happened within 4 hours and the packs also have been activated.

Initial impressions:
-> HD video quality is amazing.
-> SD video quality is average. Reliance was simply great in this aspect.
-> Dolby Digital in almost all HD channels but only few channels like English movie, star sports channels carry true Dolby Digital (Speech comes only from Center speaker and other sounds from other speakers).
-> Recording is functioning correct, has to try out it in detail in coming days.
-> Universal remote working well, the installation guy himself programmed it to couple it with my LCD TV too.
