As per information submitted by the DTH operators through quarterly Performance Monitoring Report (PMR) to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), 41.05 million were active subscribers comprising 50.39% of the total base.

The data is till 30 September 2015. Data till 30 June 2015 showed the number of inactive subscribers at 39 million, comprising 49.54% of the total registered subscriber base of 78.74 million.

The total active subscriber base stood at 39.74 million or 50.46% of the total registered subscriber base.

The six private DTH operators added 2.73 million subscribers during the July–September 2015 quarter.

Apart from the private DTH operators, pubcaster Doordarshan runs a free DTH service called Freedish.
