Doordarshan News to assume new avatar from New Year
Doordarshan News will come with a fresh "look and feel" and a new tagline from Thursday, seeking to become the preferred choice of viewers in the new year.
On the New Year's Day, the public broadcaster will sport a new look where colours black, white and deep red will have more prominence and a new tagline 'Only News Complete News', a senior DD News official said.
"There had been an assessment by all of us and it was felt that format as well as the content of the channel needs to be galvanised. So after nearly five weeks of preparation, the channel is coming with a new look and feel," DG (News) DoordarshanAkshay Raut told PTI.
He said that in its new avatar, the channel will have a new montage, new music and a greater focus on graphics. Raut also added that monitoring systems have been put in place to make the broadcasts error-free as well.
Doordarshan has in the recent past faced criticism for some embarrassing errors, for instance, a newsreader wrongly pronouncing the name of Chinese President Xi Jinpingas 'Eleven' Jinping.
After the Narendra Modi-led NDAgovernment stormed to power at the Centre, there has been a renewed focus in improving the public broadcaster. Earlier DD National also was relaunched with a new look and feel as 'Desh ka apna channel' (The country's own channel.)
DD News officials also said that the fixed programme chart is also being looked at so as to bring new and innovative programmes which can not only inform viewers but capture audiences as well.
Prasar Bharati Chairperson A Surya Prakash when contacted said, "In my view there is place for a credible news channel. That is the space we wish to occupy."
He however added that the change in look and feel of DD News was only a beginning, with much work to do in the range of channels run by the Doordarshan, including DD National and the upcoming 'DD Kisan'
