The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Dubai Government’s tourism licensing and promotional body, has launched an application for the iPhone that will help tourists and visitors explore and navigate information on the ever-growing tourism attractions of the Emirate. According to a release, features such as Deals, Augmented Reality and Explore among others will enable users to look for sales, nearby landmarks or restaurants offering a particular cuisine and search for attractions in Dubai.

A key feature of the application is that players from the leisure and travel industry and commercial establishments too will benefit from this product. They can participate in it by providing information that will be useful to tourists and residents.

Features such as Deals - which list sales and offers; Explore - which allows you to search for activities, entertainment options, attractions and what's on in Dubai; Featured - which highlights hotels and hotel apartments, restaurants and shops, among others. The unique 'Near Me' - an Augmented Reality application - feature will allow the user to look for nearby landmarks and attractions. The application also has a built in Map of Dubai that will be very useful to visitors.

"The iPhone application is the first of a series of new products and services that are part of our new IT Strategy to aggressively promote Dubai Tourism and the emirate of Dubai," added Khalid A Bin Sulayem, Director-General, DTCM.

Commenting on the benefit of the iPhone application, Carl Vaz, Director, DTCM India said, “The iPhone application on Dubai revolutionises travel in the city in a more user friendly and convenient fashion. Its detailed information system on hotels, restaurants and shopping outlets puts the travelers to Dubai at ease. Answers to travel queries are literally a touch away. This would prove beneficial for the Indian traveller in particular since India is the top source market for Dubai inbound tourism.”

Initially introduced for the hugely popular iPhone, and soon to be rolled out for BlackBerry and Android phones, the application is user-friendly and provides tourists and residents alike with information on their fingertips.
