21st Century Fox shares soar after report of sale talks with Disney

<snip>
The deal that was under discussion, as reported by CNBC, would have seen Fox selling its movie studio, television production unit and entertainment networks to Disney. Fox would have kept its news and sports holdings and would restructure around those assets. It would also have kept its broadcast network and the local broadcast stations it owns.

Soo, television channels are not up for sale. Not sure if this sale would impact Fox outside US

Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox has been in talks with The Walt Disney Company to sell most of the assets including FX, National Geographic, movie studio, TV production and international assets such as Star and Sky, CNBC has reported. Disney will not buy Fox broadcast network as it cannot own two broadcast networks. Buying Fox’s sports programming assets and combining them with ESPN will be perceived as anti-competitive from an antitrust standpoint. Quoting unnamed sources, the report said 21st Century Fox will be left behind with just news and sports if the talks reach a logical conclusion. The two parties have been in talks for the last few weeks however they have come to a standstill, for the time being, the report added. The talks indicate the challenges faced by traditional media companies in competing with new-age tech media companies like Alphabet, Facebook, Amazon, and Netflix. The deal will have major repercussions for the Indian market as 21st Century Fox’s Star India is a market leader. Disney’s India business is very small comparatively. Star India develops, produces and broadcasts 69 channels in SD and HD in eight languages across entertainment, sports, and regional genres. It also owns video on demand (VoD) service Hotstar and a movie production and distribution business Fox Star Studios. Disney India, on the other hand, has interests in TV broadcasting with eight TV channels across kids, Hindi movie, and youth genres, movie production/distribution, gaming and licensing & merchandising. The combination of Disney and Star’s assets in India will create a TV broadcasting giant with a significant presence in movie production and OTT space.

Hopefully this will turn out to be Vodafone-Idea. Or (just kidding here) Dish TV-Videocon. All talks about a merger or acquisition but nothing in the end.

dont think they will sell their india business.....in article its mentioned UK, germany and italy...

Disney, which under U.S. rules could not own two broadcast networks, would not purchase all of Fox, CNBC reported.

It did discuss buying Fox's movie and TV production studios, cable networks FX and National Geographic and international assets such as the Star network in India and European pay TV provider Sky Plc, CNBC said.

CNBC has commented on Star and Sky too :eek:k:

So Basil Bro What happene TS is sold out or. Not What is your opinion about That

Tata has more stake in TS no question of TS being sold IMO.If Disney-Fox deals goes ahead then Disney will be the other partner in TS as they will be owning Sky but we have to wait and see how much stake in Sky Disney gets.Fox deal to buy Sky 100% is stuck with regulator and may not go ahead according to reports due to politics in UK.Maybe Disney gets to own 39% in Sky or 100% in Sky.

P.S- My opinion is based on the articles I have read.I might be wrong as I do not possess deep knowledge in business deals.

Star plan of expansion of sports business in regional language will have high changes of being put on hold.Apart from the one launching next week.
