23 September 2011DUBAI — Kairali TV, an Indian channel catering to the Malayalam speaking community in India and abroad, is launching a channel exclusively for the viewers in the Middle East.

The channel, Kairali Arabia, will go on air in six months, Malayalam megastar, Mammootty, announced in Dubai on Thursday. Mammootty, who is also the chairman of the channel’s holding company Malayalam Communications Ltd, was speaking after the official opening of the company’s Middle East Headquarters in Dubai, at Oaks Liwa Heights in Jumeirah Lake Towers.

Lauding the contribution of the Gulf-based expatriate Malayalee community, Mammootty said the new channel’s programmes would focus more on them.

He added that the launch of the channel would be held at a mega event in one of the main cities in the GCC.

Viewers in the UAE will receive the channel through e-vision and Pehla services that currently provide Kairali TV. However, Kairali Arabia will replace Kairali TV.

Kairali Arabia is the fourth channel from Malayalam Communications Ltd which floated the first channel Kairali TV in 2001 with public shares. It will be the second Malayalam channel, after Asianet Middle East, to exclusively cater to the Middle East viewers.

The event also witnessed the Dubai launch of a celebrity Malayalam magazine, Facebook Family. Mammootty handed the latest copy of the magazine to the CEO of e-vision Humaid Rashid Sahoo.

Popular Malayalam actor Siddique, who is also the owner and the editor of Facebook Family, said the magazine will be distributed in the UAE through Malik News Agency from next month.
