The gunfight, which lasted for a few minutes, occurred after police and security forces raided a Maoist camp and came under fire from the rebels. Security forces retaliated till the rebels' guns fell silent, a senior state police official told IANS.

Malkangiri, over 618 km from Bhubaneswar, is considered a Maoist stronghold.
