MTNL and BSNL To Launch Free Roaming Plans This Weekend

The state owned telecom services MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam) and BSNL are likely to launch new Roaming Plans from January 26th. These plans would be very special for the subscribers who are constantly traveling or are out of station frequently. According to the sources from MTNL its upcoming plan will enable a free roaming on its network in Delhi and Mumbai.

Likewise, BSNL will also have a similar Plan for Free Roaming calls. However, BSNL subscribers may have to pay out Re. 1 a Day to enable the free roaming facility on their mobile phones. The sources close to PTI reportedly said that these latest plans are likely to launch in January 26th. The services would be available for both prepaid and postpaid users, they added.

But several private telecom operators have already been offering plans through which customers get all incoming calls without roaming charges. But these come at a monthly or daily fee starting Rs 5.

MTNL has operations in Delhi and Mumbai only, while BSNL has operations across Country except in these two circle. MTNL's Mumbai Customer will not have to pay any extra charge when they travel to Delhi, and same scheme will Apply for its Delhi customers.

Source Said that telecom minister Kapil Sibal is likely to announce this scheme within couple of days. "Minister (Sibal) had Asked the PSUs in November to Come up with Free Roaming scheme. Though it made MTNL free, BSNL will charge minimum.

Customers availing scheme will enjoy local tariff wherever they travel. According to the data released by telecom Regulator Trai, BSNL has 9.78 crore Mobile Subscribers while MTNL has 35.75 lakh customers on its network.
