The Supreme Court on Friday directed Doordarshan and other private channels to spread awareness against the harmful effects of the Blue Whale Challenge by broadcasting it in their prime time.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra after hearing a plea by two advocates, observed that the Blue Whale challenge is indeed a national problem. Advocates N S Ponnaih and Sneha Kalita filed petition seeking complete ban on the game and blamed it for at least hundred suicides throughout the country in recent times.
The apex court issued a notice on September 15, to the Centre in connection with a plea seeking a complete ban on the Blue Whale Challenge game. Following this, the Central government told the SC that it had set up an expert committee to look into the matter. Reportedly a report will be filed within three weeks.
