Not much surprise there! One of filmmaker Yash Chopra’s favourite heroes on and off screen, superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been chosen as the recipient of the 4th National Yash Chopra Award. The jury, which comprises Chopra’s wife Pamela, filmmaker Boney Kapoor, Simi Garewal , Padmini Kohlapuri, Subbarami Reddy, Any and Shashi Ranjan, made the announcement on Monday.

Explaining the reason behind choosing Shah Rukh, Pamela said that the award is to recognise stars who are either legends or legends in the making. “The award is given to those who are icons, who we know are legends like we gave to Lata Mangeshkar and Amitabh Bachchan. Last year, it was Rekha, who will be a legend tomorrow and same is the case with Shah Rukh. Also, Yash was very close to Shah Rukh and they both were extremely fond of each other,” she told reporters.

Chopra has been one of the most important filmmakers in Shah Rukh’s long-standing career. In the actor’s journey from being an anti-hero to reigning as the king of romance, Chopra has made an outstanding contribution in the form of films like Darr, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that he produced, Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Veer Zara.Chopra’s affection for Shah Rukh was not hidden, all his last films as a director were with the actor.

The award ceremony will take place on February 25, next year.
