Cable operators in Uttar Pradesh have to register themselves with district authorities paying an annual licence fee of Rs 2400 apart from Rs 100 per connection per year with immediate effect.

The State Government has issued a notification for the fourth amendment to the Uttar Pradesh Cinemas (Regulations of Exhibition by means of Video) Rules 1988.

According to the State Government authorities, raids will be conducted from May 2011 onwards to detect unlicensed operators and fine them and may register an FIR against them.

This licensing at the state-level is in addition to the registration carried out at the instance of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry by the Postal authorities under the Cable Television Networks (Regulations) Act 1995.

Apart from Cable Operators, all Cable TV and Dish antenna dealers will also have to pay a licence fee according to the place where they are operating. In Noida and Greater Noida, the fee is Rs 10000, while in Municipal areas it is Rs 6500 and in other areas it is Rs 3000 per year.

For Video libraries too, the licence fee varies from Rs 1500 to Rs 5000 per year depending on their location. The notification also covers permanent and traveling video theatres as well.

The 22-page notification also provides for a ban on the distribution or sale of adult or uncertified film material.
