India have slipped to the seventh place in the latest ICC Test rankings after losing the four-match series against Australia 0-2. India's slide in the rankings come after the two fighting draws which were not enough to prevent another series loss overseas. However, Test captain Virat Kohli has gained three places to be 12th in the batsmen standings after amassing 692 runs in eight innings Down Under.

His Australian counterpart Steve Smith has reached a career-high fourth after piling up 769 runs in the series at a staggering average of 128.16.

Amongst the bowlers, pacer Mohammed Shami rose seven places to a career-high 31st place after taking match figures of six for 145 runs in Sydney, while Australia's Mitchell Starc has moved up nine places to 33rd after returning five wickets for 142 runs.

Shane Watson and Josh Hazlewood, reached to 38th and a career-high 46th respectively.

Sorry shawl, but I disagree with you. India deserves to be at 7th rank just above those three teams. It's not because of Dhoni or Kohli. Test cricket is about taking 20 wickets and we don't have the bowlers who can do that. If you just look at the Australia series that was concluded, the main reason we lost was this. Too many runs were leaked to the Australian tail enders and they were unable to take 20 wickets even once in the series. Unless our selectors find bowlers who has this ability India will hang on to that rank. I'm not saying our batting is excellent, but the batsmen did not let us down in this series, they fought well. It's the damn Umesh Yadav's, Varun Aaron's and Shami's that let us down.

I doubt if our team could win even on the subcontinent pitches. Earlier we had excellent spin bowling players and spin bowlers. But now, it looks as if our spinners are not even equal to England spinners like Monty Panesar and Moeen Ali. Even our batsmen ability to play spin is questionable right now. God save Indian test cricket!!
