Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd’s (ZEEL) free-
to-air channel Zee Anmol has acquired the rights to the
fiction property ‘Bandini’ from the now-defunct Imagine TV
(earlier NDTV Imagine).
Produced by Balaji Telefilms, the show aired in January
2009 on NDTV Imagine and boasted a cast featuring Ronit
Roy and others.

‘Bandini’ is the story of a young girl’s journey and the
conflict she faces at the hands of destiny as she struggles
to fight against the class and caste divide of society. The
channel claims that it has handpicked the show as it
echoes the Zee Anmol philosophy of ‘Dil Choo Jaaye’.
The show will premiere on Zee Anmol on 28 September at
9 pm. The story binds two strangers together in a stirring
saga of greed, pride, deceit and traditions, and showcases
a young girl who is forced into a marriage of convenience
with an elderly man twice her age.

FTA channels generally rely on content earlier aired on the
pay channels of the network, which are largely unseen by
the FTA audiences. The move could be seen as a strategy
by Zee Anmol, the top-rated FTA Hindi GEC, to strengthen
its foothold in the rural markets. This is considering that
the ratings agency BARC is gearing up to report rural data
in the next month.
