TRAI launches ‘Channel Selector App’ to facilitate subscribers to view and modify TV subscription

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday unveiled its ‘TRAI Channel Selector App’ to facilitate subscribers to view and modify their TV subscription from the TRAI app itself. The regulator has developed the app after noticing that customers were facing it difficult to opt for TV channels/bouquets of their choice on the web portal/apps of their respective distribution platform operators (DPOs).

TRAI’s TV Channel Selector App will provide robust, reliable, and transparent systems to television subscribers with the app fetching data of the subscribers from the distribution platform operators through APIs. The customers will have to authenticated their identity by OTP on their registered mobile number. Incase, their is no RMN then the OTP will be shown on the TV screen.

The app lets subscribers to check their own subscription, view all channels and bouquets provided by the DTH/Cable operator, choose only channels of interest and remove unwanted channels, get optimized solution with best combination of user selected channels, add channels in the applicable NCF, allow users to modify subscription, and check real time status of your subscription request.

The app is already live on the Play Store and App Store before the launch. Currently, the app is limited to major DTH operators and Multi System Operators (MSO/Cable Operators). Airtel, Dish TV, D2H, Siti Network, Asianet, Hathway Digital, InDigital, and Tata Sky customers can avail the services on TRAI Channel Selector app currently. TRAI is however making efforts to integrate other service providers also on the platform.

The revamped portal is however yet to come up. The channel selector portal remains down at this point of time.
