WPC takes Satellite License modules online

DTH and HITS operators need a Wireless Operational License for the establishment, maintenance, and operation of their platforms.

Wireless Planning Commission (WPC), a branch of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has taken the Satellite License modules online in a bid to make the licensing process transparent and promote ease of doing business. The grant of various licenses issued by WPC Wing will be done online with applications now set to be only accepted online.

For the unaware, while the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has the final call to reject or approve a license, multiple other Ministries/Departments are also part of the license approval process with WPC being one of them.

DTH, HITS, or TV channels need to get a requisite license from WPC to operate wirelessly. DTH and HITS operators need a Wireless Operational License for the establishment, maintenance, and operation of their platforms.

WPC is also to be paid the license fee and royalty annually for the total amount of spectrum assigned as prescribed by WPC from time to time.
