At that time there was no NTO , at present NTO 2.0 is in court . they still at least give free preview of some channels for few days and better offers sometimes at Rs 1 first 30 days of some popular packs or service channels .

They gave it because they are transforming to gsat10 from insat4A, during that period users face outages, so to compensate that,they gave all users free period. Not for any anniversary or so.
