Exactly two decades after making her debut in Tamil, Bollywood actor Kajol will be seen once again in a film down south. She has been roped in to play an important role in actor Dhanush ’s forthcoming film Velaiyilla Pattathari 2, which will be directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth.
Kajol’s last Tamil film was 1997 Minsara Kanavu, in which she shared screen space with Arvind Swamy and Prabhu Deva . The film was a commercial and critical hit. With Academy-award winner AR Rahman’s music, all songs went on to become chartbusters. And Kajol had won the hearts of Tamil film audience too with her performance in songs like Vennilavae, Poo Pookum Osai and Manna Madurai.
After sweeping the audience off their feet with her acting and dancing skills, Kajol disappeared from Kollywood to focus on building her career in Bollywood. Now, 20 years later, she will me making a comeback in the sequel to 2014 blockbuster film, Velaiyilla Pattathari.
The details of her character are not available at the moment. However, she is expected to join the VIP 2 shooting very soon. The film went on the floors on Thursday in Chennai with the blessings of superstar Rajinikanth, who launched the film with the traditional mahurat clap.
The film will be directed by Soundarya, who has retained almost all the actors from the first one in the VIP franchise, with Kajol being the new addition. Besides Dhanush and Kajol, the film also stars Vivek, Amala Paul, Samuthirakani among others in important roles.
The filmmakers have also formed a strong technical team comprising of editor Sathyaraj, art director Satheesh Kumar, stunt choreographer Anal Arasu and costumes will be designed by Poornima, who won the National Award for her work in 2013 film Paradesi. While composer Anirudh Ravichander was part of the original film, Sean Rolden has been roped in to score music for the sequel.
Velaiyilla Pattathari was dubbed in Telugu as Raghuvaran B.Tech and released after its Tamil version. Its sequel will be shot in Tamil and Telugu and both versions will be released simultaneously. VIP 2 will be co-produced by V Creations along with Wunderbar Films.
