Has the latest Rajinikanth -starrer been beaten to the theatres by the pirates? According to reports, there are several links being provided to view Kabali. Says a source linked to the production, “We’ve contacted the authorities to pull down all these unauthorised links to the film. However, this is a Rajinikanth film. It is difficult to contain let alone control the excitement for a film starring the Thalaiva.”
While trying to keep the matter as hushed as possible to prevent more leaks, the film’s makers are making a secret plea to Rajinikanth’s fans to not watch their deity’s latest creation pre-release online. Earlier, films like Shahid Kapoor’s Udta Punjab and Salman Khan‘s Sultan were leaked online too. Though they weren’t affected, the recently released Great Grand Masti has been affected largely by the leak.
CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) chief Pahlaj Nihalani expressed grave concern over big films being leaked online. He said, “Now, the pirates have not spared Rajinikanth either! Kabali was censored in Chennai, so it had nothing to do with our office in Mumbai. Earlier, there was Salman Khan’s Sultan. However, I don’t think collections of films with iconic stars will get affected by the leaks. It is the smaller films featuring non-A-listers, which get hit by the leaks. Great Grand Masti is a case in point.”
While the film has been sold out in quite a few places and many people have even taken holidays to see this film, it remains to be seen whether the online leak, a week before the film’s release, will affect Kabali or not. We really hope that people do not watch pirated content.
