Finally got my HD Box swapped to an Xstream Box!
After a lot of follow-ups and complaints, Airtel finally processed my request.
Initially, they wanted to upgrade my existing HD box to a brand-new Xstream Box, but their system didn't have the upgrade option available. So instead, they processed it as a Set Top Box replacement, and I received a refurbished Xstream Box.
I also received this SMS:
I'm an Airtel Black customer, so I'm wondering whether this is actually free or if Airtel will add the ₹700 replacement charge to my next bill. Has anyone here gone through a similar replacement? Was any charge added later?
There was another issue during the installation. The engineer initially replaced the box, took my old HD box, remote, and power adapter, and left me with the Xstream Box along with its remote and power adapter.
About an hour later, he called and said that the remote and power adapter are not included in the replacement, and if I wanted to keep them, I would have to pay ₹650. I initially agreed and was about to send him the money.
Then I remembered that I already have an older Xstream Box at home with the same remote and a compatible power adapter. So I called him back and asked him to return my old HD box remote and adapter and take back the new Xstream remote and adapter instead. Within a few minutes, the engineer came back, took the new remote and power adapter, and returned my old remote and adapter.
The only difference is that my older Xstream Box power adapter is rated at 12V 2.5A, whereas the adapter supplied with this refurbished box is 12V 2A. Since the voltage is the same, I believe using the 12V 2.5A adapter should be perfectly fine because the box will only draw the current it requires. Can anyone confirm if there will be any issue using the 12V 2.5A adapter instead of the original 12V 2A adapter, or is it completely safe?
I also emailed Airtel regarding this because I felt the whole process was unfair. I had requested an upgrade to an Xstream Box, but since the upgrade option wasn't available, Airtel processed it as a replacement. After that, asking me to pay separately for the remote and power adapter simply doesn't make sense. What kind of service is this? If you're swapping a customer from an HD Box to an Xstream Box, the required accessories should be included, especially when the replacement itself was approved only after multiple complaints and escalations.
Overall, I'm happy that the swap finally happened after so many follow-ups. Now I'm just waiting for my next Airtel Black bill to see whether Airtel really honors the "completed without any charges" SMS or ends up adding the ₹700 replacement charge.
