MUMBAI: The Amritsar Cable TV Operators Sangh has moved the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) against multi-system operator (MSO) Fastway Transmission’s decision to hike monthly subscription fees.
The tribunal issued a notice to Fastway along with a copy of the letter and has asked it to file its reply within three weeks from the date of service of the notice. The matter will be next heard on 26 August.
The tribunal has also directed the cable operators’ body to file an affidavit in support of the allegations made in the letter. They may also file an additional affidavit bringing on record any additional facts and circumstances relevant to this dispute.
According to the Sangh, the MSO has hiked subscription fees in digital addressable system (DAS) areas of Punjab to Rs 125 per month from Rs 100. Fastway, on its part, has said that it is just implementing gross billing as per directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the amount includes service tax.
The tribunal had received a letter from the Sangh alleging that Fastway Transmission, the supplier of TV signals to them has enhanced the monthly subscription fees without authorisation.
The tribunal noted that allegations in the letter constitute a dispute under section 14 of the TRAI Act and therefore the letter must be treated as a petition.
The tribunal has also asked lawyer Vibhav Srivastava to assist the tribunal on behalf of the petitioners. Amritsar cable ops move TDSAT against Fastway’s subscription fee hike | TelevisionPost.com
